Parent Guide
NewsFlash is built to give kids a safe, playful first experience with the stock market. This guide gives you the language and prompts to make the most of every game night.
Why financial literacy early?
Research shows that money habits form before age 12. Even short, playful exposure to concepts like saving, risk, and patience builds confidence that lasts a lifetime. NewsFlash uses pretend money and friendly company names so the lessons stick without the stress.
Tips for ages 5–7
- Play together on one device. Read the NewsFlash cards out loud.
- Focus on the words "up" and "down" and the emojis — not the numbers.
- Celebrate any decision. The win is reading the news and choosing.
- Start with 10 rounds so attention stays high.
Tips for ages 8–12
- Ask, "Why do you think that company went up?" after each event.
- Introduce the word diversification when they own 3+ companies.
- Compare avg buy price to current price before selling — talk about profit vs. loss.
- Try 20 or 30 rounds for richer market swings.
Bridging to real-world investing
NewsFlash is a simulator with pretend companies. It is not financial advice. When your child asks about real investing, keep it simple: real stocks are tiny pieces of real companies, prices change every second, and most grown-ups invest a little at a time over many years. For anything specific, talk to a licensed financial professional.
